*Super Dollfies/ABJDs*

What are Super Dollfies/ABJDs?
Super Dollfies are a type of doll made by a company called Volks. They are ball-jointed dolls, often abbreviated as BJD. Super Dollfies are infinitely customizable. You can change their wigs, eyes, and face paint to create a doll all your own! Volks started the trend, but now dozens of companies in South Korea, Japan, and China are making their own versions of these dolls. That's why these type of dolls are called ABJDs, or Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls. Boo is from Fairyland, a South Korean company.

Where can I get a SD (Super Dollfie) or BJD?
If you are in the United States, SDs are most easily purchased at the Volks USA online shop. (If you're in the SoCal area, you can also visit their shop in Torrance!) Puki Pukis can be purchased at the Fairyland website above.

Your FAQ is so short! Where can I get more info on Asian BJDs?
I suggest visiting and registering at the Den of Angels Forums. With thousands of active members and an incredible database of links and images, it's the best place for people new to BJDs!

Personal Questions

Where does the website title come from?
Akiko, my first BJD, is a MSD Magie. Magie is short for Margaret, and Margaret comes from a Greek word meaning "pearl." I thought "little pearls" described these beautiful dolls very well :).

What camera do you use?
I use a Nikon D50. It's a great entry-level DSLR. Before that, I used a Kodak EasyShare DX7630.

What are your thoughts behind this layout?
When I made this layout I was fresh from my trip to the 2007 LA Dolpa. I was lucky enough to win the beautiful one-off Cristal, and after taking some photos of her I was inspired to make a new layout! All of my websites are made with a combination of Photoshop CS2 and good old Notepad.

You say your dolls have personalities. Dolls aren't real people!
I am well aware that they're not real people. However, creating personalities and backstories for BJDs is a pretty common thing to do in this hobby. Establishing a personality for each doll helps me creatively. If I have an idea of who the doll is, I can photograph and sew for it better!

Why do you have so many Volks dolls?
After being in the hobby for two years and selling off so many dolls, I find it to be important that there be some uniting aesthetic with all of them. Basically, I want them to look like they belong together. Since my first and most beloved doll is a Volks, it follows that I would pick other Volks dolls to follow her same aesthetic.

What are your future doll plans?
I really want Cailet, my Kun, back! I think I may do her FCS-style when I get her again, with the split-torso SD10 body, or just get a Kun head with a suwarikko body. She needs to be smaller than Rei :). I would also like another FCS doll -- a white-skinned MSD F-06 girl. Yes, I still want her after getting my Tae! And of course, Sasame needs his SD10 boy body.

Do you have any "dream dolls" that aren't in your future plans?
Oh, definitely! Unoss will always be my holy grail doll. And no, Unoa Zero will not do in place of Unoss ^^;;. And I'd love to have a Four Sisters, but I just don't see that happening any time soon. I also really like Elfdoll Emma and Red, but they don't fit in very well with the rest of my crew.
